What is the legal effect of a litigant's failure to attend hearings or refusal to answer after being duly notified?

If the litigant fails to appear for interrogation without a valid excuse, or refuses to answer without a legitimate justification, the court shall draw such inferences as it deems appropriate. This ruling applies to anyone who fails to attend the lawsuit or refuses to respond to it, allowing the court to be satisfied with the documents submitted to prove the validity of the claim. The proceedings shall be considered adversarial if the litigant or their agent was personally served, or if either of them attended any hearing before the court, or submitted a memorandum of defense, even if they subsequently fail to appear.
